Western City Fringe

The Western City Fringe encompasses the suburbs of Georgetown, Hamilton North, Waratah, and Waratah West.

These well-established areas offer a mix of singlestorey cottages—favoured by renovators—and properties suited for knock-down rebuilds. All are within a 15-minute drive of Newcastle’s central business district and are conveniently located near key hubs such as Kotara and Charlestown.

Waratah features Waratah Village, a popular shopping centre, while Georgetown provides a more community-focused atmosphere with its collection of family-owned shops and cafés. Waratah West, with its elevated streets, is characterised by larger blocks and multi-storey residences.

The nearby University of Newcastle has spurred investment and prompted new developments tailored for student accommodation. Hamilton North, a compact suburb, is situated to the north of the Newcastle Showground and Entertainment Centre.
